I see the future system as completely different from the current one. Decentralized self-regulation through new protocols for coordination vs. centralized government with enforcement through violence. Think of Wikipedia vs. Britannica. They’re quite different — one architecture can keep pace with the expansion of knowledge and the other can’t.

I see the current system crumbling. As it should. It is not a governance system for an information age and can’t even come close to keeping pace with the rate of change in the world today. My concern is that it will fall before enough of the next-gen infrastructure is in place. That would not be fun for many of us.
