Except saying that the Civil War was about the end of slavery (which is what we’re all told in elementary school history class) is pretty much nationalistic P.R. It might be reasonable to say it was about which brand of slavery was going to be legal: 1) The overt whips and chains style of plantation slavery, or 2) The covert wage slavery via debt, where your slaves say “Thank you” when you enslave them with that loan. To this day, 80% of the populace doesn’t own their own home and are on the perpetual hamster wheel just to stay afloat. So #2 style slavery is still alive and well (and legal).
