Complex Adaptive Systems on ALL Levels

Yes, we need local action. And we need to build that local action to scale. However, the very communication and coordination tools we have been using, create centralization of power and control. So in order to have true C.A.S., even on local scale, we still need tools which do not centralize power, wealth, and control.

I am not suggesting technology is a magic wand that will instantly solve our problems. Yet, every era of human civilization was shaped by the tools that people had for coordination. Spoken language gave us tribes and culture. Writing gave us Kingdoms and Empires. (You could not have operated the Roman Empire without writing. Yet it also created specialization of literate priestly and ruling classes.) Printing gave us Industrial Age Nations and Corporations.

The next era of human organizational capacities are being birthed by the Internet. Yet, they are hampered by mentality of centralization that created them.

The tools we’ve been building at the MetaCurrency Project are exactly for enabling Complex Adaptive Systems at all levels of human organization. You can read the early draft of our white paper talking about how C.A.S.’s evolve protocols for coordination using the kind of generalized grammatic capacities we’re building.

We can’t organize in the new patterns we need without them.
